This site, How To Peel A Banana, is run by Rocketeer Group Limited ("we", "us"). This page explains what personal information we collect, why, who sees it and how long we keep it. You can contact us at [email protected].
If you ask for a free signed copy
On the VIP page we collect:
- a screenshot or PDF of your order confirmation for the book;
- your name and email address;
- the recipient's name and postal address, which you give us so we can post the book.
We use this to check that you bought the book, to decide whether to approve your claim, to post the book, and to email you about your claim (that it was received, and whether it was approved or declined). We rely on our legitimate interest in running the giveaway fairly and, for the postal details, on what is needed to send the gift you asked for.
Only our staff can see your claim. We also keep an irreversible, scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address and the delivery address so that we can enforce one free copy per email address and per address, and a fingerprint of your screenshot so the same one can't be used twice. Those scrambled copies can't be turned back into your details.
How long we keep it: 30 days after a claim has been posted or declined, we delete the screenshot and all of your readable details. We keep only the claim's status, dates and the scrambled copies described above.
The recipient's details are provided by you. Please only give us the address of someone who is happy to receive a gift.
If you subscribe for updates
We collect your first name and email address to send you news about the book. We only add you once you click the confirmation link we email you, and every update has an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe we stop emailing you, and keep your address on a suppression record so we don't add you again by mistake. If you tell us you no longer want update emails when you claim a free copy, we record that too. You will still get emails about a claim you have made.
If you enquire about workshops or bulk orders
If you use the corporate workshop or bulk order forms, we collect your name, work email, company, and the details you give us about your enquiry (such as team size or number of copies and any message). We use them only to reply to you and to quote for the work, and keep them for as long as the conversation or any resulting order needs.
Who else handles your information
- Google (Gmail) sends our emails to you, so it handles the content and your email address.
- Geoapify, if address search is used, receives the address text you type into the search box to suggest matches.
- Our hosting provider stores the site and its database.
- Google Fonts and cdnjs (Cloudflare) deliver the fonts and scripts the pages use, so your browser connects to them and they see your IP address.
We don't sell your information and we don't use it for advertising. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on recognized safeguards.
Keeping the site secure
We keep your IP address briefly in our server's session records to keep the site secure and stop abuse, for example to limit repeated sign-in attempts or form submissions. These records expire within a few hours.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work: a session cookie and a security cookie that protect forms from misuse. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to give you a copy. Email [email protected],and we will reply as soon as possible. Phone 01785 331553. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top.
